The Revolution 3 Tour made its way to Boston recently, and the teaming of the CultStone Temple Pilots and Bush proved to be a hit with the enthusiastic crowd at the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion.

A continuously rotating headliner status on this night saw the Cult getting top billing -- not surprising as they've played more in the New England market than anywhere else since reuniting in 2006. Stone Temple Pilots took the middle slot, making their area debut with new singer Jeff Gutt, with Bush tagged as the night's openers.

All three bands have the same hour-and-change set length, leading them to stick mostly to the hits. The Cult, however, have been digging a bit deeper into their catalog with songs like "The Phoenix," "Elemental Light" and "The Witch.". Boston also saw the first tour appearance of "Spiritwalker," one of the group's oldest songs, with its roots in frontman Ian Astbury's early 80's Gothic post-punk band Southern Death Cult.

Despite their headliner position on the bill being pure luck of the draw, it's where it felt like the Cult truly belonged this night. While STP and Bush might have bigger hits and younger fans overall, there was no doubt who the rock 'n' roll legends were on the Boston waterfront.
