Austin, Texas made its presence known in New York City when Sweet Spirit performed on Wednesday night (April 29).

Normally a nine-piece garage-pysch outfit, the band slimmed down to a sextet for their show at the Cakeshop last week. But even though they may not have had the whole crew, that didn't stop the band from rocking out. From the moment they started soundcheck (after completely reconfiguring the whole stage), the band members couldn't help but start playing music. Even as the Who's "My Generation" blasted through the speakers, they started to play along and added even more power to the classic song.

Sweet Spirit performed all the tracks from their latest self-titled EP, which included "Let Me Be on Top," "I've Made Up My Mind," "Baby Doll" and "Outlaw." As they performed each song, they not only displayed their great musicianship but all eyes were on singer Sabrina Ellis, who absolutely stole the show. From her unabashed banter between songs that included admitting she tore down the Christmas lights at the venue the last time the band played there to her freestyle moves, she added that extra oomph that took this set to another level.

Sweet Spirit are currently on tour and will be playing shows throughout North America. Check out their website to find out when they'll be performing in a city near you.
