A former drummer for Cake, Pete McNeal, has been sentenced to 15 years to life in a California state prison for molesting a 3-year-old girl five years ago.
Former Cake drummer Pete McNeal has been convicted of charges that he molested a 3-year-old girl during an incident at a Los Angeles home in 2009. McNeal, whose original trial on the counts of oral copulation and sexual penetration of a child under the age of 10 was declared a mistrial, was found guilty of both charges Monday (March 18). He was taken into custody yesterday and is being held without bail in advance of sentencing, which is scheduled for April 25.
In the upcoming DreamWorks film ‘Turbo,’ a snail pursues his lofty dream of becoming a speed racer. The animated flick – starring Ryan Reynolds alongside supporting actors Bill Hader, Samuel L. Jackson and Snoop Dogg – is scheduled to hit theaters next July. The tune featured in the trailer is Cake’s popular anthem ‘The Distance.’
Four albums in to their lengthy career, and it's safe to say that Cake were pretty comfortable when making 'Comfort Eagle.' The disc, which dropped 11 years ago today (July 24, 2001), marked their major label debut on Columbia Records after a series of releases on defunct indie Capricorn -- and continued the eccentric band's string of quirky-but-cool discs.
Cake haven't been known to rush themselves and release albums on a yearly basis. That is most evident with the seven year gap between their last two records. 'Showroom of Compassion' came out last year, which is the follow-up to 2004's 'Pressure Chief' and their first studio album released independently since being dropped from Columbia Records in 2005.
Cake have won Diffuser.fm's Sound Off for three consecutive weeks now, with their 'Showroom of Compassion' track 'The Winter' beating out the Big Pink, Delta Spirit, and most recently, pop-rock quartet Neon Trees. This week, Cake's 'The Winter' will go head-to-head with the Dandy Warhols' new song 'Sad Vacation,' but it's up to the readers who wins.
Congratulations to Cake on becoming Diffuser.fm's Sound Off winner for their second week straight! Cake first beat out the Big Pink with their track 'The Winter,' and more recently, they edged out Silversun Pickups for the second consecutive win. Now, Cake's 'The Winter' will be pitted against Neon Trees' 'Everybody Talks' in this week's fan-voted Sound Off.
Cake are now the reigning champs of Diffuser.fm's Sound Off, beating out the Big Pink's 'Superman (Hit the Ground)' with their new song 'The Winter' in an overwhelming defeat. Now, Cake and their 'Showroom of Compassion' track will go head-to-head with Silversun Pickups and the band's 2012 single, 'Bloody Mary (Nerve Damage).'
