Coldplay

With a knack for crafting cinematic stadium rock, Coldplay burst on to the scene with their 2000 debut ‘Parachutes’ and its breakout hit ‘Yellow.’ From there, the British quartet became an international success, filling the arenas its thoughtful pop music was truly made for. Fronted by singer-songwriter Chris Martin, Coldplay continued to win over fans with their 2002 follow-up, ‘A Rush of Blood to the Head’ and its mesmerizing single, ‘The Scientist.’ Together, ‘Parachutes’ and ‘A Rush of Blood to the Head’ earned Coldplay the Grammy for Best Alternative Album two years in a row. Despite the distractions that come with Martin’s tabloid-cover marriage to a famous actress — and subsequent divorce — Coldplay have continued to carve out their spot among Radiohead and Oasis as iconic Brit rockers well into the '00s with their growing catalog, including 2005’s wildly successful ‘X&Y’ and the Brino Eno-produced ‘Viva la Vida’ in 2008.

Five singles into their latest album, 'Mylo Xyloto,' and Coldplay are still going strong. In an era when many bands focus on a few standout tracks to base an album on and then surround them with filler, with 'Hurts Like Heaven' (which is soon to be released to radio), the British boys prove 'Xylo' is deep enough to warrant the string of singles.
