Muse certainly explored new sonic territories with their recent dubstep-inspired track 'Unsustainable,' and now the British rockers drift even further from their original, um, muse with a cover of Prince's 'Sign o' the Times,' recorded earlier today at the BBC’s Radio One Live Lounge.
As you may have heard, the members of Muse are currently embroiled in a $3.5 million lawsuit filed by a songwriter who has accused the band of stealing his ideas. The trial has yet to begin, but the band has already issued its verdict, calling the whole thing "complete nonsense."
Muse frontman Matt Bellamy wasn't kidding when he said the group's new music was partially inspired by Skrillex. While the first listen of Muse's upcoming 'The 2nd Law' album, 'Unsustainable,' was full-on dubstep at times, the band's official new single, 'Madness,' impresses with a more restrained electronic arrangement.
You can be forgiven for thinking that the track 'Survival' was selected as the debut single off Muse's forthcoming 'The 2nd Law' album. It was a common assumption. But while 'Survival' was in fact adopted as the official song of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, it never was actually picked as the first single -- or in fact, any single -- off the album. That honor, in fact, will go to the tune 'Madness,' which officially will hit radio Monday (Aug. 20), well ahead of the disc's Oct. 2 release.
Last night (Aug. 12) at the 2012 Olympics closing ceremony, Muse performed ‘Survival,’ the official song for this year’s Olympic games. However, their energized and highly anticipated performance -- as well as performances by Ray Davies, Kate Bush and the Who -- was cut from the NBC telecast that aired in the U.S., and music fans were sure to voice their disappointment.
Muse have hopped on the dubstep bandwagon -- and wouldn't you know it, like everything else the Brit rock trio churns out, they've done it in epic fashion.
