For fans of Primus' classic lineup and/or the 1971 film adaptation of 'Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,' it's like finding a golden ticket.
Primus drummer Tim Alexander, who also plays in the band Puscifer, suffered a heart attack yesterday.
Primus are an anomaly. It’s amazing, after all these years, how fully the sportos, motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wastoids and dweebies have accepted the band’s brazenly bizarro and wholly uncategorizable sound. Headlining Thursday night at Mountain Jam 2013, Les Claypool and the gang played to a giant throng of concertgoers braving the driving rain, growing puddles and bushels of mud.
Primus have mapped out a spring North American tour that will find the veteran rockers performing two sets per night accompanied by 3-D visuals and a quadraphonic sound system -- elements that will combine to create what frontman Les Claypool has called "a really trippy" experience for fans. The trek kicks off March 8 in New Orleans and runs through a June 9 gig in North Tonawanda, N.Y. Along the way, they'll stop at the Bottle Rock, Mountain Jam and Niagara River Rocks festivals.
According to a recent statement, Mickey Melchiondo – otherwise known as Dean Ween – is teaming up with Les Claypool, bassist for funk-metal mavens (and Mountain Jam 2013 performers) Primus, to star in a new reality series … about fishing. Who knew that these two artists shared a passion other than music?
A range of rock acts, from been-a-thing-forever Primus, still-a-huge thing Dave Matthews, to just-became-a-thing Alabama Shakes, have contributed songs to 'Turn the Tide,' a charity album released as companion to 'Last Call at the Oasis,' a documentary investigating the global water crisis.
