Downtown Events has announced the first set of dates for the 2013 Downtown Music Festival series. On May 10-11, the fest will take place in New York’s Lower East Side and feature performances by Sky Ferreira, Palma Violets and Earl Sweatshirt. These and other artists will perform in such intimate venues as the Bowery Ballroom, the Mercury Lounge, Pianos, Cake Shop, Element, Tammany Hall and Angel

Like most SXSW performers, indie pop chanteuse Sky Ferreira had more than a couple gigs lined up at ths year's edition of the annual Austin gathering. Wednesday's bill at the House of Vans alongside the Specials, Iggy Pop and the Stooges and Japandroids was her highest-profile of the week, but sometimes its the low-key ones that really rock.
