Tegan and Sara Announce New Single ‘Closer’

Today (Sept. 19), both Tegan and Sara Quin of Tegan and Sara turn 32, and to celebrate their joint birthday, they've posted a video announcing a Sept. 25 release date -- yes, that's next Tuesday -- for 'Closer,' their first single. "It's our first single from the new record," clarifies Tegan, making a reference to the duo's forthcoming as-yet-untitled new album, which is due sometime this fall. "It's not our first single ever."

"Before the single comes out on Tuesday," adds Sara, talking while 'Closer' plays faintly in the background, "there's going to be other stuff that happens, like a lyric video ... [which] is a video with lyrics that comes out before your video." Tegan and Sara don't mention it, but the 'Closer' lyrics video will premiere on Monday (Sept. 24).

But wouldn't it be weird to release the lyric video before the song itself premieres? Yes, it probably would. That's why 'Closer' will have its worldwide audio premiere tomorrow (Sept. 20) at both TeganandSara.com and RollingStone.com, according to a post at the end of the video.

"We hope to enjoyed this sneak peek of the song," concludes Sara, with 'Closer' still playing in the background. "We can't wait to play it live this fall ... see you soon."
