The Avett Brothers Nail Down Release Details for ‘The Carpenter’ Album

It’s been a longer-than-expected trip, but the Avett Brothers are now well on their way back to releasing a new album.

The group revealed Tuesday morning (June 26) via their Facebook page that ‘The Carpenter’ is the title of their new album, and it’s due Sept. 11. The band’s sixth release features the new track ‘Live and Die,’ which they also debuted Tuesday morning at NPR‘s website.

‘Live and Die’ is an bouncy ditty with a more upbeat feel than a lot of the music from their ‘I and Love and You’ album. There’s a very prominent banjo in the song courtesy of Scott Avett that really sets the pace. As for the lyrical content, Seth and Scott Avett deliver the mantra, “You and I, we’re the same” in fairly repetitive sing-along manner that has the infectious nature of a kiddie song.

‘Live and Die’ follows such tracks as ‘The Once and Future Carpenter’ and ‘Winter in My Heart,’ which the group debuted live within recent months. Though a track listing has not been revealed, it’s expected both cuts will be part of the upcoming disc. The group recently appeared on Conan, but chose not to debut any new material and performed ‘Murder in the City’ instead.

The Avett Brothers have already resumed touring in support of ‘The Carpenter,’ and have dates booked well into October.
