In 2002, a decade after they released their debut EP, 'Iwo Jima,' Stabbing Westward called it quits. For fans of alternative industrial rock, the future looked bleak.

Fortunately, founding member and vocalist Christopher Hall understood the void his band left; from Stabbing Westward's break-up, he formed the Dreaming, and in 2008 released the band's first full-length, 'Etched In Blood.' As the Dreaming continued to take form, Hall reconciled and once again joined forces with keyboardist Walter Flakus, an original member of Stabbing Westward.

Now in their strongest incarnation, Hall, Flakus and the Dreaming have set their sights on taking over the world of alternative rock and are gearing up for their third studio record, 'Rise Again,' set for release on Feb. 10 via Metropolis Records.

Today (Jan. 13), Diffuser is beyond thrilled to partner with the Dreaming to premiere a very special track -- the band's cover of Garbage's '#1 Crush.' Check it out in the audio player below.

"This song was such a great underground pop piece from our time period," Hall tells us. "I remember when Stabbing Westward did dates with Garbage, and they would play this song, the reaction they would get from their fans."

He goes on, "I heard the song the other day on the radio and thought how great the song is still. The more I listened to it, I also thought that it had elements of Stabbing Westward and we should do a cover of it. We decided to cover this song and give it away to our fans who are pre-ordering 'Rise Again' as a thank you."

The song will not be a part of the album's track list, so the only way to get your hands on the Dreaming's powerful rendition of '#1 Crush' is to pre-order the record. Get your hands on it via iTunes at this location, or at Metropolis' official website here.
