‘Waitin’ for a Superman’

Flaming Lips singer Wayne Coyne wrote they obviously superhero-inspired title ‘Waitin’ for a Superman’ in 1999 after his father passed away from cancer.

“He really delved into the chords and melody I had created and rose to the occasion by being completely unguarded and expressing his heavy heart and mind at that time,” the band’s drummer, Steven Drozd, said in an interview.

‘Waiting for a Superman’ is the single from the band’s 1999 album ‘The Soft Bulletin.’ The song has been covered by the likes of David Bazan, Iron and Wine and Coldplay.
