The upcoming NBC series ‘The Michael J. Fox Show’ centers around Mike Henry’s (Michael J. Fox) battle with Parkinson’s disease, as the illness forces him to leave his beloved career as a news anchor. Paired with the trailer for the brand-new show is ‘Float On’ by Washington-based indie-rockers Modest Mouse.

The tune appears on their album ‘Good News for People Who Love Bad News,’ which was released back in 2004 via Epic, and it achieved widespread success, landing at No. 1 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. In 2009, it was named the 39th greatest song of the 2000s by Rolling Stone.

In a 2004 interview with the A.V. Club, Modest Mouse's lead vocalist Isaac Brock shed some light on the inspiration behind the hit song. “It was a completely conscious thing,” he said. “I was just kind of fed up with how bad s--- had been going, and how dark everything was, with bad news coming from everywhere.”

In addition to appearing in the television promo (watch below), ‘Float On’ has been featured in such video games as ‘Rock Band 2’ and ‘Guitar Hero World Tour,' and cover versions have surfaced in ‘John Tucker Must Die’ and ‘The O.C.’
