At first glance, the cover to the National's indie hit from 2010 may look like a toddler attacked a wall with a box of Crayola, but it actually pictures a sculpture by artist Matt Fox (last image in the second row) that was painstakingly created by scribbling words down on paper, cutting them out and hanging them on a wire to create the billowing effect. Much like the National's music, there's more to it than meets the eye.
