Legendary post-punk band the Pop Group have announced the release of their first new studio album in 35 years, 'Citizen Zombie.' In anticipation of the disc, they've given fans a taste of things to come with the first single, 'Mad Truth.' Check it out above.

The new record features original members Mark Stewart (vocals), Dan Catsis (bass), Gareth Sager (guitar) and Bruce Smith (drums). 'Citizen Zombie' was recorded at various locations over the last two years, with finishing touches put on late summer 2014. “Even I am shocked by the album. It really flips the script," said leader Mark Stewart in a press release. "Expect the unexpected. Let the freak flag fly.”

The Pop Group first came to prominence in 1978 as part of the second wave of punk bands to emerge from the U.K. Their early singles, such as the groundbreaking 'She Is Beyond Good and Evil' and 'We Are All Prostitutes,' were revolutionary and helped change the shape and sound of what was expected from "punk rock." Along with bands like Public Image Limited, Gang of Four and the Slits, they took the aggression of the era and mixed in elements of funk, dub reggae and avant garde into a truly exciting sound. Their 1979 debut album, 'Y,' is often heralded as a classic of the era.

The band's influence can be found in bands like Sonic Youth all the way up to Savages. "The energy is still there, the idea is still there, it still fizzes with a life that most young bands today just don’t have," said producer Paul Epworth of  the new 11-track album, which takes that energy and moves it right up to the present.  "He gave us the freedom to create," Stewart said of Epworth, adding, "Destiny rides again for the Pop Group.”

'Citizen Zombie' will hit the streets on Feb. 23 on the Freaks R Us label. The band will embark on a brief U.S. tour in March.
