The xx, ‘Together’ [Listen]

The xx have contributed an original song to the soundtrack for the forthcoming film 'The Great Gatsby,' alongside the likes of Beyonce and Florence + the Machine. The xx's track, which they wrote for the film, is called 'Together' (listen below), and it clocks in at five-and-a-half minutes.

There's a quiet tension to this spare track, which centers on male-female vocal interplay and a clangy, looped beat. The ambiance of the song fits the thick and emotionally tangled narrative of the 'Gatsby' storyline.

There's a swell of strings at the end, and a beat-driven fade out. It's pretty marvelous, actually. The soundtrack will be available digitally and as a 17-track, Target-exclusive edition on May 7. A 14-track version will retail at Starbucks, among other music retailers.
