Throwback Thursday: Nirvana Live From Krist Novoselic’s Mom’s House

Subscribe to on

Late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain loved the walls of Krsto and Maria Novoselic’s home so much that he placed the microphone where he could examine the wood’s quality while he performed. The parents of bassist Krist Novoselic were kind enough — assuming they knew this was going on in their home — to let his loud, noisy band play in their home. Don’t believe us? Check out the video above.

Surrounded by ones of friends, the band pummeled through a few songs that would become Nirvana classics, such as ‘About a Boy’ and ‘Spank Thru.’ They also massacred Led Zeppelin’s ‘Immigrant Song'; it was still interesting to hear, though.

Also worth noting is Novoselic’s massive chops — he was rocking some serious sideburns back then. Maybe he was the one who wanted to cover Led Zeppelin?

Then we get to hear an early version of ‘Hairspray Queen,’ the song where Kurt showed how funk guitar wasn’t exactly his strong suit — or maybe he played the intro poorly on purpose to be sarcastic, because, you know, that was the fashion of the day.

The video is split into two parts. Watch the first half above and the second half below.
