On the latest episode of BBC Two’s Artsnight, Thurston Moore uncovers a rare live recording of the former Sonic Youth guitarist singing with English punk band X-Ray Spex in 1978.

Artsnight features a guest host exploring a theme of his choice, and this week, Moore helms the episode about the ‘70s British punk scene. He meets up with late X-Ray Spex frontwoman Poly Styrene’s daughter Celeste Bell and recalls attending the punk outfit’s concert at CBGB in 1978. Styrene handed a roughly 18-year-old Moore the microphone, and he sang along with “Oh Bondage! Up Yours!” Moore says, “I’ll always remember it,” before listening to a bootleg recording of the show with Bell. Watch the segment at the top of the page.

Artsnight airs in full tonight (March 11) on BBC Two. The episode also features Chrissie Hynde, Pete Shelley and Julien Temple.

Sonic Youth disbanded in 2011, but they just reissued six albums from their mid-'90s to mid-'00s catalog on vinyl earlier this year.
