On her third solo album, ‘Same Illusion,’ Barbara Trentalange — who goes simply by Trentalange — is exploring brighter, more positive territory. However, the singer still delivers an acute self-awareness that has been apparent on her previous solo efforts, starting with 2006’s ‘Photo Album of Complex Relationships.’

This emotional honesty and the rich tone of her vocal have earned her comparisons to everyone from Annie Lennox to PJ Harvey.

Trentalange became a mother following her 2009 sophomore album, and she says that was a driving force behind the change in attitude that ultimately inspired the new sound on ‘Same Illusion.’ Hear it for yourself on ‘Reconnected,’ the album’s lead single. Diffuser.fm is thrilled to offer an exclusive premiere of the track below.

The songstress says ‘Reconnected’ is primarily about overcoming her past demons and escaping the darkness that dominated her previous releases.

“By exploring my emotions and being honest with myself, I’ve been going through a long process of healing,” the singer says. “‘Reconnected’ is about this journey towards forgiving myself for all the self-destructive beliefs I have been holding on to and learning to love my spirit again.”

If you like what you hear, be sure to mark ‘Same Illusion’’s release date of Jan. 28 on your calendars.
