U2 Working on Movie Musical

Now that U2 have pushed back the release of their new album and seem to have some time on their hands, two members of the band is undertaking another project.

According to NME, Bono and the Edge are working with ‘Once’ director John Carney on a new movie about his life. The semi-autobiographical tale centers on Carney’s childhood, and will be told through music, as a boy grows up at a private school and, later, in the city.

The film, ‘Sing Street,’ will feature music by the two U2 members, who are no strangers to movie music. Earlier this year they won a Golden Globe for ‘Ordinary Love,’ a song U2 contributed to the Nelson Mandela biopic ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.’

Carney’s breakthrough movie, ‘Once,’ also revolved around music, and starred the Frames’ Glen Hansard. The super-popular movie snagged tons of awards and acclaim, and gave birth to the Swell Season, the group Hansard co-led with his ‘Once’ co-star Marketa Irglova.

U2 were all set to release a new record this year, debuting a song during the Super Bowl and even stopping by Jimmy Fallon’s inaugural hosting gig on ‘The Tonight Show.’ But conflicting rumors say the album may now be pushed back to next year.

In the meantime, this looks like the only new music we’ll have from U2 in a while, so enjoy.
