Creative difference came this close to breaking up the Pixies in the midst of a tense 1989 European tour -- during one show in Stuttgart, Germany, frontman Black Francis even threw a guitar at bassist Kim Deal. But a brief hiatus delayed the inevitable until 1993 when, after a disastrous stadium trek opening for U2 and one final album, 'Trompe le Monde,' Black announced that the Pixies were over during an interview with BBC Radio 5. This was news to the rest of the band, who found out about the split via fax machine messages. The Pixies still managed to mount a massively successful reunion tour in 2004 -- and have played together relatively drama free since.
