Vampire Weekend have announced a May 7 release date for their as-yet-untitled third album. The date was confirmed Tuesday (Jan. 22) with a post on the splash page of the band's official website, which includes the cryptic letters "MVOTO" in the bottom-left corner of the screen. Is that some sort of reference to the disc's title? Obviously, we don't yet know, but it probably won't be long before more details are out there.

VW recently confirmed that they had finally finished recording the disc, which included sessions with producer Ariel Rechtshaid in Los Angeles. Frontman Eza Koenig admitted that it wasn't exactly smooth sailing -- and never is for the band. “Making every record is a process full of tough times,” Koenig told NME.com. “Invariably that’s how it is for us."
