A new Volkswagen Golf commercial provides the opportunity to hear Depeche Mode's 'People Are People' in easy listening, country, and dance versions. The German VW ad even features DM singer Dave Gahan behind the wheel of its 2013 model.

The promo begins with different VW drivers listening to 'People Are People' in various genres, including industrial metal, children's lullaby and '70s lite-rock. Our favorite might be the Johnny Cash-esque old-time country version.

Finally, viewers hear the original 1984 recording as Gahan is shown behind the wheel of his own VW Golf. His cameo lasts all of three seconds before he parks and walks away, leaving the car glowing in the nighttime city lights.

Companies love to use old songs in commercials, so it's cool to see VW go one step further and invite the singer to appear in the clip.

'People Are People' appeared on the British group's fourth album, 'Some Great Reward,' and became their first U.S. hit, reaching No. 13 on the pop chart. The trio recently announced plans to release a new album in March 2013, followed by a European tour in May.
