Back in January, Chvrches revealed that they had begun work on a sophomore follow-up to their 2013 debut full-length, The Bones of What You Believe. Six weeks into recording, the Glaswegian synth-pop trio played a good-natured prank on their manager, letting him take a listen to what he thought was a new song for the upcoming LP.

As the noisy track plays, Chvrches’ manager looks a little slack-jawed and nervous, while frontwoman Lauren Mayberry tries desperately to disguise her amusement. After a short listen, they ask him what he thinks. He’s silent for a moment before generously replying, “Um… it’s quite discordant.”

After everyone breaks out laughing, he reveals he was withholding just how petrified he really was. Check out the prank in the video above.

The Scottish outfit has yet to share a release date or title for the forthcoming LP, but they did say that they’re channeling Prince and Michael Jackson in the new material – something that’s definitely not heard on the prank track they played for their manager.

“When you listen to a Michael Jackson song or a Prince song, you realize there’s absolutely nothing in it but an amazing bass line, drums and singing,” Chvrches’ Martin Doherty told NME. “We want to channel some of that.”
