Prophets of Rage welcomed a surprise guest during their Aug. 24 stop in Toronto, bringing Dave Grohl out on the stage for a cover of the MC5 classic "Kick Out the Jams."

As you can see in the fan-shot footage above, Grohl took center stage with guitarist Tom Morello for the performance, with both contributing guitar and Grohl handling vocals while Prophets frontmen Chuck D and B-Real served as hype men for the song. Although his appearance was a surprise, the set list selection shouldn't be: Grohl's covered "Kick Out the Jams" as a special guest in concert before, memorably appearing alongside Pearl Jam for a performance in 2010.

The Toronto show came just a few days before the arrival of the Prophets' debut EP, The Party's Over, which is set to make its debut Aug. 26. Combining two studio tracks and three live performances, it serves as a hopeful teaser for more to come from the socially aware act, currently in the midst of their "Make America Rage Again" tour.

"We're not a supergroup," Morello told Rolling Stone. "We're an elite task force of revolutionary musicians determined to confront this mountain of election year bulls---, and confront it head-on with Marshall stacks blazing."

Grohl, meanwhile, remains at relatively loose ends during the Foo Fighters' current hiatus. NME reports he was recently spotted in the studio with Korn, but whether he was there to make a musical cameo or simply pay a friendly visit is unclear.
