Yesterday (Aug. 23), local radio station KEXP assembled a supergroup of Seattle-area heavy-hitters -- Mudhoney’s Mark Arm, Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready, ex-Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan and erstwhile Screaming Trees drummer Barrett Martin -- for a one-off performance atop the Pike Place Market.

Dubbed Raw Power, the quartet tore through a 30-minute set of Stooges covers. With Arm at the fore as an Iggy Pop stand-in, the Mudhoney leader jokingly introduced his bandmates for the day as the guys from the Fartz and Warrior in lieu of their respective claims to fame. He also offered some insight as to how the free event came to fruition.

“The president of Pike Place Market and the CEO of KEXP had a lunch one day at the country club and learned they both had a love for two things: rooftop concerts and the f---ing Stooges,” Arm said. “And so the president of Pike Place Market said, ‘I can secure a rooftop. Mr. KEXP, can you get me a fake Stooges?'”
