Watch Members of Wilco, R.E.M. and Sleater-Kinney Cover David Bowie in Mexico
During the week since the death of David Bowie, the tributes rolled in at a steady pace and, at this past weekend's kickoff of the annual Todos Santos Music Festival in Mexico, the stars there aligned for a few high-powered covers.
First, the one-off supergroup Filthy Friends – led by R.E.M.'s Peter Buck and Sleater-Kinney's Corin Tucker – played a pair of Bowie Covers with help from Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones (on keyboards), Scott McCaughey and Kurt Bloch of the Minus 5 and drummer Bill Rieflin. They performed Bowie's "Jean Genie" (fan-shot video above) and, then joined by R.E.M.'s Mike Mills, they took on "Rebel Rebel" (below).
But the highlight of the night came at the end when headliner Jeff Tweedy joined up with his Wilco bandmates, Buck, Mills, Tucker and members of the Jayhawks, the Old 97's and the Minus 5 for a performance of "All the Young Dudes." Check out that footage below.
