Yesterday (Jan. 5), Katie Crutchfield -- who performs under the stage name Waxahatchee -- celebrated her 26th birthday by announcing that she will release a new album this year.

The announcement came by way of a less-than-one-minute-long video posted to Crutchfield’s Tumblr. It captures the Alabama-hailing, Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter recording while a snippet of a new song plays in the background. Check it out below.

The forthcoming LP will be released via Merge Records; Crutchfield signed with the label back in December 2014.

“I’m so happy to announce that Waxahatchee will be working with Merge,” she wrote in a statement posted to Merge’s website. “They’ve been one of my favorite labels for a very long time. They’re wonderful people, and I’m so excited about making records with them in the future!”

The yet-to-be-named album will be Waxahatchee’s third, following her 2012 debut, ‘American Weekend,’ and her 2013 follow-up, ‘Cerulean Salt.’
