A day after a teaser for Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of Marvel Comics’ The Defenders series using Nirvana‘s “Come as You Are” hit San Diego Comic-Con, competitors DC have hit back. Today, they unveiled a full-length trailer for Justice League that uses the White Stripes‘ “Icky Thump.”
In the clip embedded above, you see Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman putting together the group of superheroes, including Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg and Ezra Miller as the Flash. At one point, Affleck surprises Miller in his own house to try to recruit him. “I’m putting together a team of people with special abilities,” he says. “You see, I believe enemies are coming.”
“Stop right there,” Miller interrupts. “I’m in. … Yeah, I need friends.”
Although Henry Cavill‘s Superman wasn’t featured in the trailer, he’s in a photo that was also released today, which suggests he’s going to be involved in the film somehow. But we shouldn’t hold our breath waiting for Justice League to arrive in theaters. The movie won’t be released until Nov. 17, 2017.
“Icky Thump” is the title track to the White Stripes’ sixth and final album. It was their highest charting album, reaching No. 2 in the summer of 2007 and was certified gold. But as they prepared to tour the U.S. in support of Icky Thump, Meg White was diagnosed with a case of acute anxiety, and the month of dates was scrapped. While they tried to regroup in 2009 to record a seventh record, two years later, they announced that they had officially broken up.
