This founding member of a band that is named partially after his last name grew up in the Cleveland area but moved out to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music after high school at the urging of his dad. Years as a struggling musician and drug addiction followed, but the singer — who also is known for his striking good looks and his dancing skills — stuck around L.A. long enough and landed a job as a commercial jingle writer. Soon after, he finally formed a band.
Things picked up quickly for the indie pop group, thanks to their breakthrough single going viral in early 2010, with the tune nearly topping the Billboard Hot 100 and having equal success on numerous other charts worldwide.
