This singer grew up in San Diego, Calif., relocating to Seattle after joining a band there in 1990 that would go on to become one of the biggest alternative rock bands of all time -- playing the role in grunge music of the Beatles to Nirvana's the Rolling Stones.

Their 1991 debut album has nearly sold 10 million copies in the United States alone, but perhaps even more impressive has been his band's longevity, issuing a total of nine studio album in their 20-plus years together. He's also issued two solo albums; the latest, which dropped last year, features him performing the ukulele.
