Yuck's 'Glow and Behold' revealed the new direction in which Max Bloom was taking the band after the departure of singer Daniel Blumberg, and we were fans. Bloom and co. continue down this path with the release of their new song 'Athena,' the lead single from a new EP, 'Southern Skies,' they'll release this spring.

Melodious and very much reminiscent of the days of '90s alt-rock, 'Athena' has a lush sound packed with more instrumental layers than is typical for the London foursome. Bloom's voice, meanwhile, glides smoothly over the top.

Appreciative of the support they've received over the past year, Yuck passed on relaxing over the holidays and instead got back to the studio. That was the impetus for the new EP, as they explained in a note to fans.

"Hey everyone!

Instead of staying in and watching TV this Christmas, we all got together and recorded a few new songs, the first of which we're very happy to show you now. 'Athena' will be the first of 4 tracks from our new EP. Keep your ears to the ground for more new tracks in the next few weeks! And special thanks to everyone who has come to our shows on this US tour so far, they've all been great. We're about halfway through now, so check out our Facebook for the remaining dates!

Keep your stick on the ice,
Yuck"

Yuck are also hitting the road today (Jan. 30) at Don Quixote's in Felton, Calif., and will perform in California, Texas and select cities in the east coast. The mini-tour will wrap up on Feb. 15 at Bowery Ballroom in New York City.
