In October, we reported that Courtney Love was cast in the New York City pop opera, ‘Kansas City Choir Boy.’ The show is set to premiere on Jan. 8 and will run through Jan. 17 at the Manhattan Arts Center in New York. Ahead of opening night, the New York Times has given fans a taste of what to expect.

In a brand new video for the newspaper, Love sings ‘All I Ever Wanted’ from the opera, backed with Todd Almond on piano and Eric Allen on cello. You can watch the full performance of the song above.

As Love describes the opera as a whole, she compares it to releasing a song. “It’s like putting out a single ... if it gets catchy, then we do it in London or something. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t. We think it’s really catchy and fabulous,” she tells the Times.

She also admits that this is a whole new endeavor for her. “I’ve never done musical theater,” she says. “It’s baptism by fire, but I’m going to hang in and give it my best.”

‘Kansas City Choir Boy’ is part of New York City’s Prototype: Opera/Theater/Now Festival. Get more details on the performance here.
