Eddie Vedder Offers Ballad ‘Skipping’ from ‘Every Mother Counts’ Compilation
Eddie Vedder's sentimental ballad 'Skipping,' a track from 'Every Mother Counts 2012,' the second-annual compilation of music for the worldwide campaign to reduce maternal mortality, is now streaming online.
The song can be heard exclusively at Rolling Stone. It opens with a quiet acoustic guitar melody and the voice of a toddler, Vedder's own daughter Olivia. The Pearl Jam frontman sings, "All of my life, from beginning to end / What I'll remember is holding your hand / All that I'll cherish is the time that we spent / Me and you skipping throughout the land."
"Eddie was amazing to accept this project while in the midst of so much," said Christy Turlington Burns, founder of Every Mother Counts. "I spoke to him and exchanged several emails about his contribution. 'Skipping' is such a sweet song and I just love that his daughter Olivia has a little cameo at the start. He once wrote me saying that his girls would be proud one day that their dad contributed to such a meaningful project."
The gorgeous original song will no doubt be one of the highlights of 'Every Mother Counts 2012,' which also features contributions from Coldplay, Beck, David Bowie, members of U2 and others. The CD will be available at Starbucks stores across North America starting today (May 1) through May 29, with $8 from each sale going to the Every Mother Counts project.
