Jeff Buckley — Drowned in Wolf River Harbor
An up-and-coming singer with just one album to his credit, Jeff Buckley was 30 years old when, on May 29, 1997, he decided to go for a swim in Wolf River Harbor, a slackwater channel of the Mississippi River in Memphis, Tenn., with all of his clothing and boots on and singing Led Zeppelin's 'Whole Lotta Love.' Buckley quickly went missing in the wake of a passing tug boat, and despite an extensive rescue effort that night, he didn't turn up.
Two locals found his body in the river a week later, seemingly putting rumors of a mysterious demise to bed. It didn’t, of course, and the circumstances of Buckley’s death are still considered shady.
