Indie flick ‘Juno’ (2007) helped launch the careers of pretty much everyone involved, including director Jason Reitman (‘Ghostbusters’ producer Ivan’s son), writer Diablo Cody (who won an Oscar for the screenplay) and its young cast, which featured Ellen Page and Michael Cera, who was already kind of a big deal thanks to ‘Arrested Development.'

Like most independent movies, the soundtrack is filled with under-the-radar talent. Moldy Peach Kimya Dawson contributed quite a few of the tunes, and hers weren't the only gems on this beloved collection. Check out our picks for the 5 Essential Soundtrack Cuts.

    ‘Doll Parts’

    Hole

Courtney Love is on record as saying Nirvana’s ‘Heart-Shaped Box’ is about her vagina. Is the band name Hole also about the organ? How about the song ‘Doll Parts?’ Is there anything in the world not connected -- in some messed-up Kevin Bacon sort of way -- to Courtney Love’s privates? Either way, 'Juno' is a movie about teen pregnancy, so her inclusion here makes sense.

    ‘Loose Lips’

    Kimya Dawson

Kimya Dawson is one of those indie artists that writes simple, little-girl-sounding songs that are deceptively deep, tongue-in-cheeky and just perfect for the ‘Juno’ soundtrack. ‘Loose Lips’ features speedy lyrics in the vein of the Barenaked Ladies’ ‘One Week,' only there's far more wit and hilarity involved. There’s even a Third Eye Blind ‘How’s It Gonna Be’ reference embedded in there. You’ll be sooo in like with her.

    ‘Sea of Love’

    Cat Power

Aside from being arguably one of the best-looking indie stars out there, Cat Power, aka Chan Marshall, is a highly talented singer-songwriter. So this cover of the 1959 Phil Phillips classic, which went to No. 1 on the Billboard R&B chart, might take you a little off guard, especially since the Autoharp accompanying her sounds slightly out of tune. Once you get past that, though, it’s a mind-bendingly quirky little cover.

‘Anyone Else But You’ - The Moldy Peaches

The Moldy Peaches are a duo made up of the aforementioned Kimya Dawson and lo-fi all-star Adam Green (he of ‘Jessica,' as in Jessica Simpson, fame). This ditty from the ‘Juno’ soundtrack is equal parts cute and twee, with Dawson and Green passing verses back and forth like a funny cigarette. It’s such a fun song, you may find yourself singing it to your lover.

‘Piazza, New York Catcher’ - Belle & Sebastian

If there were a Twee Olympics, Belle & Sebastian would be its Michael Phelps. And along with the band’s grasp of the tasty little indie-pop nugget, B&S also has a great sense of humor (of the U.K. sort -- they’re Scottish). Appearing originally on 2003’s ‘Dear Catastrophe Waitress’ (produced by the Buggles’ Trevor Horn), ‘Piazza, New York Catcher’ is a tongue-in-cheek love song to then-New York Mets catcher, Mike Piazza, who was rumored to be gay. (He’s since "dispelled" all rumors by marrying a Playboy Playmate and fathering a child.) Even if he is, who cares? (Well, maybe the Westboro Baptist Church, but they're all going to hell anyway, right?)
