Former Cold Cave member Justin Benoit has died, band member Wes Eisold reveals in a post on his Facebook page. Few details are available as of press time, and the cause of death has not yet been announced.

Benoit served as a touring member of Cold Cave on a trek supporting their 2009 debut album, 'Love Comes Close,' and joined the band in the studio for the recording of 2009's 'Stars Explode,' a split tape with Prurient that was released via Hospital Productions.

Eisold's Facebook post, which appeared Thursday (Feb. 21) and quickly spurred dozens of condolence messages, reads:

Friends, It saddens me to have to tell you of the tragic passing of Justin "Chachi" Benoit.

As many of you know we lived together in my Philadelphia house, and he continued to live there until his passing. He was my friend and band member. He was a genius with impeccable taste. He loved his family, his friends, the Fall and when he would see broken umbrellas on the street. We love him and miss him dearly. Rest In Peace.

Please let's be respectful of everyone's privacy to grieve.

In addition to being a musician, Benoit was a author and poet, with his writing published via Heartworm Press.
