Legendary radio personality The Captain from WBLM in Portland, Maine, sat down with Max Davies, guitarist for Kitchen Dwellers, to discuss recent tour stories, upcoming shows, and life in a Montana newgrass band that is gaining momentum at every stop.

A Closer Look at Kitchen Dwellers

Kitchen Dwellers are a progressive "jamgrass" band from Bozeman, Montana, blending bluegrass, rock, and folk sounds. Kitchen Dwellers are known for their kinetic live shows and their blend of psychedelia, making them truly unique and a must-see. The current members are Shawn Swain (mandolin), Torrin Daniels (banjo), Joe Funk (upright bass), and Max Davies (acoustic guitar). They formed from jam sessions in college kitchens, hence the name, and are leveling up at every live show and touring extensively. Their latest album, Seven Devils, dropped in 2024, and they can regularly be caught on tour. Check out tour dates here.

The Newgrass Movement in Leveling Up

"Newgrass" is a term for the growing "jamgrass" movement. It is a fusion of bluegrass, rock, jazz, and jam. Billy Strings has been leading the resurgence, selling out large arenas and building an ever-growing following. Other artists making waves include Molly Tuttle, The Infamous Stringdusters, and Kitchen Dwellers, to name a few.

Recently, I had the opportunity to see Kitchen Dwellers live and was impressed by their eclectic sound, contagious vibe, and deep psychedelic jams. Add them to your list to see live while they are elevating in real time.
