Noel Gallagher took the opportunity of a live TV interview last night (Dec. 14) to dismiss talk of an Oasis reunion by joking that he was ready to take part. The question arose because the Britpop icons will become eligible for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019, 25 years after the release of debut album Definitely Maybe.

“I’d do it,” Gallagher said on BBC TV's The One Show. “I guess you’d have to [get back together] to accept [induction]. That’s if you accept it.” Asked whether he was serious, he replied, “I’m going to say ‘no’ … We can say ‘yes.’ Shall we say ‘yes?’” Pressed further he added, “Absolutely. I would be thrilled to do it,” while making it clear he wasn’t serious at all.

The point could be moot in any case – since Noel had previously said he wasn't interested in accepting induction anyway. "The f---in’ fella from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame came to me and said, ‘Do you know in two years you’ll be eligible for the Hall of Fame?’ I said, ‘Is that right?’ He said, ‘Yes.' And he started going on, and I said, ‘Let me f---ing stop you there. I know what it is. I know what it entails, and it won’t be f---ing happening, OK?'”

Oasis split in 2009 after tensions between brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher boiled over. NME reported in August that Liam had spoken in favor of a reunion, saying during an interview about his latest LP, As You Were, that he “would prefer to be speaking about an Oasis album than a Liam solo album.” In another interview he stated, “I’m still deeply f---ing disturbed and still deeply grieving for that band. I know it’s been nine years or however long it is, and I know people go, ‘Yeah, but get over it.’ But no. I won’t f--- get over it."

However, Noel ruled the move out in October, while promoting his High Flying Birds’ new album, Who Built the Moon?. He said, “I don’t need the money, I don’t need the glory, I don’t need to relive the memories. If I was to get Oasis back together tomorrow and then do a tour, I’d have a hundred million dollars in the bank but I’d have learnt f--- all.” He added, “It would be the death of me as a person.”
