Stone Temple Pilots Confirm Return to Stage — But Who Will Sing?
Stone Temple Pilots have announced an invitation-only live performance for Nov. 14 – likely to be the first with their as-yet unnamed new singer. The band recently confirmed they’d found a replacement for the late Chester Bennington, who left in 2015 after two years to concentrate on Linkin Park. He’d taken the place of the late Scott Weiland, who’d been fired in 2013. The band’s last performance was a one-off reunion with Bennington in March 2016.
Now the new member is expected to be revealed at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, Calif., at a show that’s only open to SiriusXM listeners, a select number of whom were notified of the event via e-mail, according to Blabbermouth. Tickets will be allocated among those who’ve applied by 12 noon PT today (Nov. 2).
"We've been working with someone – I don't want to name names yet – and we're making music,” bassist Robert DeLeo said in September. “I don't know if he's well-known or unknown; I don't look at him as 'well-known.' But we're writing music and we're hopefully looking at finishing a record and putting it out soon."
Last month he and guitarist brother Dean slammed rumors of their singer’s identity following a public search that drew in over 15,000 applications. Robert said it was “rubbish, rubbish, all rubbish” while Dean commented, “It’s been an opportunity for some people to really do some inappropriate self-promotion, is what I should say – and that’s really kind of out of line.”
Stone Temple Pilots released a deluxe five-disc anniversary edition of debut album Core in September, along with a single-disc remaster and a double-disc version featuring the remaster alongside some of the bonus material included in the deluxe edition.
