Ariel Pink is out there. Like a reach-for-the-thesaurus-to-describe-adequately status of strange: quirky, idiosyncratic, madcap -- those might do. The Los Angeles-based singer has churned out a stream of basement-tape consciousness -- as in hundreds of cassette tapes -- before catching the ear of Animal Collective. Drummer Aaron Sperske says that even though his bandmates in Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti ousted him in May, he's still entitled to 25% of their earnings. To collect his alleged share of the band's profits, Sperske has filed a lawsuit against the rest of the band for $1 million.
Since breaking through into the mainstream with their last release, the critically-acclaimed 'Before Today,' Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti are set to release their followup album, 'Mature Themes,' on Aug. 21.
