Best Coast

Maybe you remember back in the day when the Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. sported a very large afro? In one of the Twitter posts to make our list of the week's best, he reveals he's not going be bringing it back any time soon. Elsewhere, Best Coast seem to be getting sick of traveling so much -- such is the dark side of being rock stars -- and look for salvation in an airport bar.

Best Coast are from the West Coast, of course, and they certainly aren't shy about how much they dig their side of things. "Why would you live anywhere else? / We've got the ocean, got the babes / Got the sun, we've got the waves," frontwoman Bethany Cosentino sings on the title track to 'The Only Place,' the band's latest album and a love letter of sorts to California.

Best Coast are back with a new album this week, and to celebrate, the band paid a visit to 'The Late Show with David Letterman' last night, where they performed new song 'The Only Place.'

To call anything about 'The Only Place' new would be generous. To call Bethany Cosentino's lyrics thought-provoking would be generous. To call Best Coast's second studio album interesting would be absurd -- though it is fun.

Best Coast have announced a bulk of dates for a North American and U.K. tour, which is set to kick off next month. The lo-fi duo will launch the tour in their hometown of Los Angeles, Calif., on May 18, just days after their new album 'The Only Place' hits stores May 15.
