The youngest in a family of 10 kids, John Anthony Gillis started playing music at only six years old. In 1997, Gillis (now going by the name Jack White) and his ex-wife Meg formed the White Stripes. They began a musical legacy that would serve as the foundation for Jack White’s eventual musical omnipresence. Each White Stripes album was a sonic step forward. What began as a guitar-and-drums blues rock duo evolved into a songwriting machine. ‘Get Behind Me Satan’ demonstrated that White was capable of astounding feats of musical majesty. He later formed the Raconteurs and released ‘Broken Boy Soldiers,’ the first album where he utilized a full, traditional rock band. The Raconteurs followed that up with ‘Consolers of the Lonely.’ He also played drums and sang with the Dead Weather, releasing two albums. In between all of that, he found time to run his own record label, Third Man Records. He’s now two albums into what’s shaping up to be a very successful solo career.
