The xx's Oliver Sim has gone on the record to reassure his fans -- and especially his own mother -- that he's fine and perfectly happy, despite all the gloomy lyrics that found their way on to the band's forthcoming sophomore album, 'Coexist.'

The press release announcing Alicia Keys' new album 'Girl on Fire' hinted at a new sound for the Grammy-winning artist -- one she's exploring via a collaboration with producer and recording artist Jamie Smith of the xx.

-- The xx recently were "so inspired" by the view from their room on the 33rd floor of a Tokyo hotel that singer Romy Madley Croft filmed a gorgeously minimalist performance of 'Angels,' the first single from the band's forthcoming 'Coexist' album.  It's definitely worth watching (video below).

The xx took the indie world by storm in 2009 with their self-titled debut album, earning near-universal acclaim and landing near the top of numerous year-end lists. Their much-anticipated follow-up, 'Coexist (out Sept. 11), is expected to bring more of a dance-heavy vibe to their indie pop blueprint...

It was worth the wait. With breath bated, palpated hearts and pimples goosed, we have yearned for the xx to give us new music. They have. And ‘Angels’ is everything that we hoped for.

You may already know that indie rockers the xx will release their new album 'Coexist' on Sept. 11 through Young Turks, and you may have even heard a few snippets of songs bound for the disc. Indie rock band the xx have revealed plans to release a new album this fall. 'Coexist' will be available to fans starting September 11 through Young Turks.

Following up on their earlier announcement of a summer European tour, the xx have added a brief series of North American dates to their itinerary that will find the band crossing the U.S. from late July through early August.

It’s been nearly thee years since we’ve been treated to a new record from the xx, but the British indie rockers expect to release the followup to their self-titled 2009 debut later this year.
