Are you a fan of The Hold Steady? Do you love 'Game of Thrones?' Well, then last night’s (April 14) episode of the HBO drama held a special treat for you during the end credits. The Brooklyn-based band recorded a version of ‘The Bear and the Maiden Fair,’ a song that makes an appearance in George R.R. Martin’s ‘Song of Ice & Fire’ novels, which the television series is based upon, and last night, it got its debut.

The Hold Steady’s version may take you out of the period setting of GoT, but they’re not the first rock band to contribute to the show’s soundtrack. The National also recorded a version of a song featured in the novels, ‘The Rains of Castamere.’ Their version was included in an episode of season two.

Craig Finn, the Hold Steady's frontman, offers his trademark sound, singing alongside echoed chants from the rest of the band. The outcome: a rousing number true to the spirit of the books. If you missed it on last night’s episode, take a listen below.
