NBC’s singing competition, ‘The Voice,’ is known for discovering relatively unknown talent and launching them to primetime fame under the guidance of superstar coaches. So, why then, did the show invite one-time Drive-By Truckers frontman and award-winning solo artist Jason Isbell to audition? Good question.

Today, (Nov. 19) Isbell tweeted a screenshot of an email he received from an NBC producer, asking him to audition for the show -- see the tweets below.

The producer wrote in the email, “[I] am a Talent Producer on NBC’s ‘The Voice.’ I came across Jason Isbell online and was hoping to chat with him about auditioning for us if it’s something that interests him?”

The producer no doubt has great taste; he or she is just shy of being 15 years late to the game.

In a tongue-in-cheek response, Isbell tweeted, “My audition on ‘The Voice’ will be a solo vocal and French horn rendition of ‘Oh Comely’ by Neutral Milk Hotel. I will wear a #bikini.”

He already has the hashtagging down, now all Isbell needs is some thinly veiled product placement, and he’ll be all set for life in ‘The Voice’’s limelight.
