Yes, indeed, that is Sonic Youth frontman Thurston Moore singing backing vocals on 'Crush With Eyeliner,' a single off R.E.M.'s 1994 album 'Monster.' R.E.M. singer Michael Stipe once said that the song was inspired by the New York Dolls, adding that the band "knew how to exaggerate a song, to make it sound really sleazy and over the top." With his hushed vocals delivered in a smarmy, suggestive tone, Moore's contribution to 'Crush With Eyeliner' certainly makes the tune sound over the top.
