Jason Isbell is enjoying the recent success of his new album, Something More Than Free, which debuted at No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums and Top Folk Albums charts upon release. Today (Aug. 9), he celebrated during a visit to CBS Sunday Morning.

“It’s really more fulfilling to judge yourself by a different standard,” Isbell told CBS of his latest full-length's positive reception. “But that being said, it’s not everything, but it’s a really nice thing!”

During his appearance, Isbell performed Something More Than Free’s lead single, “24 Frames,” with his wife and bandmate Amanda Shires. The singer-songwriter also discussed his grandfather, who played a key role in music education growing up in Alabama.

“My granddad would play gospel songs for a couple hours, and I would have to do the rhythm,” he says in a web-exclusive clip. “I was so small, it was hard to wrap my hand around the guitar but if I made it through that he would play blues for me… That was my reward for making it through a couple gospel standards.”
