Following months of rumors, Adele has been confirmed for the soundtrack of the new James Bond film, 'Skyfall' -- due in theaters on Oct. 26 -- making her part of a lengthy musical tradition that includes artists such as Paul McCartney, Tina Turner, Sheryl Crow and Garbage.

As Contactmusic reports, Adele tipped her hand last year, when she let slip on a talk show, "I'm going back in the studio in November, fingers crossed. Well, this is actually a theme, that I've got to do. Wow, that's really giving something away."

The theme song, which will reportedly also be titled 'Skyfall,' will mark the first time Adele has issued new music since she released her multiplatinum second album, '21,' last year. She's kept a low profile since sweeping the Grammys earlier this year, focusing -- understandably -- on the impending birth of her first child.

'Skyfall,' the 23rd film in the long-running Bond series, arrives on the 50th anniversary of the film franchise, which kicked off with the Sean Connery-led 'Dr. No' in October 1962.
