Allman Brothers Band Headlining Mountain Jam Festival

The Allman Brothers Band will headline the 10th annual Mountain Jam Festival in June. Seeing that the music fest was named after the Allmans’ song — a 30-plus minute instrumental first heard on the 1972 album ‘Eat a Peach’ — it’s a fitting turn.

It’s also a bittersweet one, since the group will be pulling the plug on its road amps at the end of the year. In January, the band’s two key guitarists — Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks — announced that they will be leaving the band at the end of the year. Not long after, Gregg Allman said that 2014 would be the final year for the Allmans’ touring show.

The band last played Mountain Jam five years ago. For this year’s performance, they will play their first two albums (their 1969 self-titled debut and the following year’s ‘Idlewild South’) in their entirety.

Also returning to the Mountain Jam stage this year will be Robert Randolph & the Family Band. Randolph and the Allmans join previously announced Mountain Jam performers the Avett Brothers, Jeff Tweedy, Bob Weir & Rat Dog, Gov’t Mule, Tedeschi Trucks Band and Michael Franti and Spearhead, plus others. The festival takes place June 5-8 at Hunter Mountain, N.Y.
