Allman Brothers Band Headlining Mountain Jam Festival

The Allman Brothers Band will headline the 10th annual Mountain Jam Festival in June. Seeing that the music fest was named after the Allmans' song -- a 30-plus minute instrumental first heard on the 1972 album 'Eat a Peach' -- it's a fitting turn.

Mountain Jam 2013 In Pictures

The sun has set on Mountain Jam 2013, but we left Hunter, N.Y., with four days of memories, a bag full of dirty clothes and -- most importantly -- a bunch of great photos. During the festival, we saw a number of big-name bands -- the Avett Brothers, the Lumineers, Deer Tick -- and discovered some new favorites, such as Elijah & the Moon and Roadkill Gospel Choir. We also took in some of the festival's legendary ambiance and made friends with some mud people. Scroll down and check out some of our favorite pictures from Mountain Jam 2013.

Deer Tick Talk Nirvana, Red Sox Baseball and Their New Album ‘Negativity’ at Mountain Jam 2013 [Exclusive Video]

Since he was seven years old, there's only been one constant in John McCauley's life, and that's his favorite band: Nirvana. "Everything else changes," the Deer Tick frontman told us last weekend at Mountain Jam 2013, where he and his group played a raucous roots-punk set that included a cover of the 'Nevermind' classic 'Breed.' While Kurt Cobain might not be the most obvious influence on this Rhode Island-born Americana collective, the group plays country, folk and blues with a badass rock 'n' roll sensibility, and their Mountain Jam set also included a cover of the Replacements' classic 'Can't Hardly Wait.'

The Lumineers Discuss Their Origins and Future Plans + Yeezy, Weed Laws and Electrocution at Mountain Jam 2013 [Exclusive Video]

When it comes to the Lumineers, Stelth Ulvang and Ben Wahamaki "jumped on right in time," as the pianist and bassist explained to Diffuser.fm during a recent sit-down at Mountain Jam 2013. Two years ago, when Ulvang and Wahamaki met founders Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites, the band was still playing open-mic nights in Denver. Now, of course, they're Grammy-nominated superstars -- the biggest folk-pop act not called Mumford and Sons -- and their hit 'Ho Hey' is all over the place.

Avett Brothers Discuss Family Dynamics, ‘The Neo-Folk Thing’ and Chicken Cheddar Biscuits at Mountain Jam 2013 [Exclusive Video]

When the Avett Brothers sat down with Diffuser.fm at this past weekend's Mountain Jam festival, the rain was falling hard, and the mud was starting to flow. Hence our icebreaker: "Do you feel you're a better rainy- or sunny-day act?" The North Carolina group had never heard that question, and after giving it a thoughtful answer, the fellas went on to discuss past Mountain Jams, their devoted fan base and the family dynamics that allow brothers Scott and Seth Avett to play music together without coming to blows.

Mountain Jam 2013: 9 Things We Learned at This Year’s Festival

Some music sites might cancel festival plans because of inclement weather, but at Diffuser.fm, we literally embrace the crud out of it. When we piled into our VW Bus (or you know, '97 Accord) and headed to Hunter, N.Y., for this weekend's Mountain Jam 2013 festival, we knew we were in for some rain and mud. But as Neil Young might say, we didn’t let it bring us down. Instead, we let loose, rolled up our pant legs, chatted with some cool peeps and heard some incredible music. We also interviewed the fine folks in Elijah & the Moon, the Avett Brothers, Deer Tick and the Lumineers -- all of whom are princes.

Lumineers Talk ‘Mountain Jams’ at Mountain Jam 2013, Shrug Off One-Hit-Wonder Fears

The Lumineers may be the biggest little band in America. On the strength of their megahit ‘Ho Hey’ and latest single 'Stubborn Love' -- presently burning up the charts and ensuring the continued relevance of their self-titled debut, an album released more than a year ago -- the band arrived at Mountain Jam 2013 as, well, kings of the mountain.

Before the Lumineers took the stage Saturday night (June 8), Diffuser.fm chatted with barefoot piano player Stelth Ulvang and shoe-favoring bassist Ben Wahamaki about the band’s meteoric ascent and the secret behind their name. Check back later for video of the full interview.
